MILK

MILK: A saga of chaos

You, the audience, are armed with water balloons.

They, the performers, must perform an improvised show or face your wrath.

It’s like a seance at a waterpark. We can't change anything unless somebody throws a balloon at us and then something MUST change. Get it? Good. Wondering how milk fits in? You will. That's a threat.

The first installment of the MILK saga debuted in the 2021 NZ Fringe Festival as “a high-energy fringe highlight” – Arthur Hawkes, Theatreview.

Like all good show concepts, the idea for MILK came to show creator, Sean Burnett Dugdale-Martin, in a dream.

“The dream I had in 2020 was simply performers in a dark space having water balloons thrown at them and then having to change the performance without any suggestions. I think unconsciously my mind borrowed the balloon throwing from much older forms of theatre where audiences could throw fruit and veggies at the performers. Each time we work on a new iteration we ask ourselves: what would bring us the most joy? What do we want to try out? How can we challenge ourselves?“
